- The domain is locked at the current registrar. Turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called "Registrar Lock" or "Theft Protection") in their control panel.
This check uses public registry data and may be a few hours behind. A change you just made at your registrar can take up to a few hours to show.
Before you start: get your domain ready
These steps are done at the company where your domain is now. The names of the menus differ a little from one registrar to another.
1. Unlock the domain
- Log in to your current domain provider.
- Open the domain's management page.
- Turn off "Transfer Lock", "Registrar Lock" or "Theft Protection".
- Wait an hour or two, then check again above.
2. Get the EPP / auth code
- On the same page, look for "Auth Code", "EPP Code" or "Transfer Code".
- Some providers email the code to the domain owner's address.
- Keep it private — enter it only at our checkout (or send it to us when we ask).
3. Check the simple rules
- At least 60 days since registration or the last transfer.
- The domain must not be expired.
- Make sure you can read the email address on the domain — an approval email may come there.
